Ensemble Katharsis

Ensemble Katharsis is the brainchild of Italian Vocalist and Organist Dieter Oberdoerfer and Markus Burger, a German born Pianist and composer from California. Both share a love and passion for Christian music and Improvisation, which had been the bread and butter of European music for the past 1000 years.
Between 2000 and 2009 Oberdoerfer and Burger started playing together and improvising over Chants, Choral, Modes and Music of Palestrina, Bach and Mahler, to name a few. In 2007 the Ensemble’s final lineup featured German Alto saxophonist Jan von Klewitz and Italian Organist Ferruccio Bartoletti. The Quartet recorded their Debut Album Vesprae in the town of Laas, Tirol in a wonderful Romanic church from the 13th century and toured extensively from 2007 through 2010.
Still on the quest for rediscovering the beauty of some hidden gems, Ensemble Katharsis will be joining again in the summer of 2019 for 4 concerts and the production of a new Album. The Ensemble will be joined by Flugelhornist and Record Producer James Linahon. The album will be expected to hit the shelves in the beginning of 2020.
